Easy isn’t always good…and it might be screwing up your life

easyEasy.  I think it’s one of the biggest traps we fall into as human beings. When life is easy, there isn’t a lot of effort necessary.  And that sounds like a great course of action, right?

But easy isn’t always comfortable or good.

It might be easy to keep your mouth shut rather than speaking up for yourself and possibly risking a fight.  But that quickly becomes uncomfortable as you lose touch with what you know to be right for you.  And it’s certainly not good when you find it almost impossible to speak up because you’ve (almost) lost the ability to speak up for yourself.

It might be easy to keep working at the job you don’t really like because it pays the bills and is less risky than finding something new. But it quickly becomes uncomfortable to get up and go to work each day. Before long you’re dreading Mondays and counting the seconds until Friday at 5pm. And it’s certainly not good when you start taking your work stress out on the people at home or even end up burned out or seriously ill.

It might be easy to keep eating the way you are because your kids and/or partner complain about the healthy foods you try introducing to them. But it quickly becomes uncomfortable as you gain weight or don’t have enough energy to get through the day. And it certainly isn’t good when those unhealthy foods lead to illness or disease.

That’s why I think ‘easy’ is a trap.  The path of least resistance isn’t always the path that will lead to comfort or good happening for you.

So, what’s the solution?

The solution is to make choices that are authentic. Choices that honor who you really are, what you really want, and what you know you deserve in life.

Those choices might not feel easy at first. You might not even see a clear way to act on them. But once you’ve made the choice, a way will be made to make it happen.

As you strengthen your ability to speak up for what has heart and meaning for you and you help others to honor your boundaries and in turn learn about theirs.

As you take the time to figure out what kind of work you’d like to do and what kind of business you’d like to work for, you become open to the opportunity of finding that perfect job. Your stress goes down and you’re able to better connect with your loved ones and keep yourself healthy and balanced.

As you begin to cook healthier food, your body feels better and your loved ones have a chance to learn to love new flavors and become healthier too.

Each choice you make that is more authentic to you helps you to live a life you love just a little bit more. And when you love life a little bit more, it just feels easier…for real this time.

What choice can you make right now that is more authentic?
